師冕見，及階，子曰：“階也。”及席，子曰：“席也。”皆坐，子告之曰：“某在斯，某在斯。”師冕出。子張問曰：“與師言之道與？”子曰：“然。固相師之道也。”
The music master， Mian， having called upon him， when they came to the steps， the Master said， “Here are the steps.” When they came to the mat for the guest to sit upon， he said， “Here is the mat.” When all were seated， the Master informed him， saying， “So and so is here; so and so is here.”
The music master， Mian， having gone out， Zi Zhang asked， saying. “Is it the rule to tell those things to the music master？” The Master said， “Yes. This is certainly the rule for those who lead the blind.”
【原文】
师冕见①，及阶②，子曰：“阶也。”及席③，子曰：“席也。”皆坐，子告之曰：“某在斯④，某在斯。”而冕出。子张问曰：“与师言之道与⑤？”子曰：“然，固相师之道也⑥。”
【今译】
盲人乐师冕会见孔子，走到台阶前，孔子说：“这是台阶。”走到坐位边，孔子说：“这是坐席。”大家都坐下后，孔子告诉冕说：“某某坐在这里，某某坐在这里。”师冕走了以后，子张问道：“这是同乐师讲话的方式吗？”孔子说：“是的，这就是帮助盲人乐师的方式。”
【注释】
①师冕（ｍｉǎｎ）：师，乐师。冕：乐师的名字。我国古代的乐师，大多是瞎子。
②及：到达。
③席：座位。
④某在斯：某某人在这里。某：古书中的某，一种是自谦之词，一种是避讳而不敢直指其名，一种概而言之，代替不确指的人、地、事、物、如某人、某国、某一天，某某单位等等。斯：这里。
⑤道：方式方法 。
⑥固：本来。相：帮助
