  Last month, I found a smooth, gray stone by the park pond. On it, someone had painted in blue letters: “Pass it on.” I didn’t know what it meant, so I put it in my pocket.   “May I help you?” I asked. Her face lit up like the morning sun. Together, we watered her roses and marigolds. Now I pass it to you.” She held it tightly and tears sparkled in her eyes. The next week, I saw Mrs. Chen baking cookies for the postman, who always looked tired. Now it comes home to you. Happy birthday, kind child.” I realized that kindness is like a stone thrown into a pond—it creates ripples that keep moving. And sometimes, the ripple comes back to you in the most beautiful way. I keep the stone on my desk to remind me that even a small act of help can start a chain of sunshine.
